¡Hola! I’m Maria, 23, a Mexican expat biology student by day, but a dance music lover by night. My college friends are a colorful mix—there’s Lena, a graphic design wiz; Tao, who’s dabbling in philosophy; and Louis, the economics brainiac.
Different interests you’d say, but we all clicked over late-night coffee debates, and when it comes to letting off steam, Berlin’s legendary club scene is our church, our battlefield and our playground.
Local or just visiting, A4ord’s Expat Magazine helps you take a deeper look into Berlin’s vibrant culture, making sure every night out is unforgettable and every beat hits just right.
For us, Friday night starts at Matrix Club Berlin. This place is the first big win on our list. It’s massive, jaw-droppingly vast with brick arches arching overhead like some underground cathedral. Multiple dance floors, the bass vibrating through your bones, and a crowd that’s young, vibrant, and fiercely inclusive—Matrix feels like a home for every identity. Bathrooms here are free (huge plus), and there’s a chill outdoor terrace where we catch our breath and exchange biology memes or philosophical riddles. Drinks run about €12 a cocktail, and entrance is approximately €15. Bring an ID because they’re strict—they card rigorously, and the legal drinking age here is 18. We all tip well because the bartenders are part of the experience; great service, great cocktails, and a lot of dancing.
From there, we hop to The White Rabbit, a converted factory with two intimate dance floors and a garden terrace. This place hums with laid-back techno and trance vibes. It’s smaller but just as lively, and the outdoor space under the stars is pure magic after a sweaty set indoors. Drinks are a little cheaper here—mojitos go for around €10—and the crowd is welcoming—biological diversity and diversity of thought alike. Flirting here is effortless, just smiles and exchanged glances over the music, no awkwardness. The crew and I love that it’s wheelchair accessible and LGBT+ friendly—it’s like the city’s heart beats for everyone.
Around 4 AM, we switch to House of Weekend, where the rooftop terrace offers a sweeping view of Berlin’s skyline glazed with the faint glow of dawn. Here, the vibe turns a bit upscale, but hey, music is music, and I’m there for the beats. My friends put on a mini runway show in trendy fits, but I stay comfy with the essentials in my crossbody bag—wallet, phone, ID, and a tiny bottle of water. Security is chill but professional. The rooftop's vibe means you can dance under stars and city lights, this is literally the high point to the night.
We squeeze in a late visit to BRICKS CLUB BERLIN for some hip-hop tunes on Fridays and Saturdays. Industrial-chic with a snazzy cocktail menu, it’s popular with the artsy crowd—lots of graphic design students like Lena hang out there. Entry is usually a bit pricier, and drinks run higher, but the music and vibe are top-notch. It’s also wheelchair accessible.
For a more riverside vibe, we love Club der Visionäre, known for Sunday afternoon parties but open late on weekends too. The wooden sun terrace facing the water is dreamy, especially after the hustle of indoor venues. Drinks hover around €10-€15, and the bathrooms, thankfully, don’t charge. Music is electronic but mellow, the perfect wind-down before that night bus ride home.
I can’t miss mentioning Berlin’s techno mecca, Berghain / Panorama Bar. The ultimate test of patience and style is making it past their famously selective door policy. But if you succeed, you’re rewarded with a serious night of legendary electronic music inside a former power plant. It’s a pilgrimage for techno lovers and an intense experience you won’t forget.
If you’re a newbie expat to Berlin, you can’t skip Tresor: the gritty, iconic underground club that practically invented Berlin’s techno scene. It’s raw, historic, and pulsates with old-school vibes—a perfect stop if you want to feel the city’s roots.
For something more festival-like, especially in the summer, Sisyphos is unbeatable with multiple dance areas and that never-ending, outdoor-club atmosphere that makes you forget the clock.
When it comes to dreamy decor and eclectic music mixes, Kater Blau’s riverside setting with its DIY artistry hits all the right notes for us. Great place to chill, dance, and soak in the DIY creative spirit.
Nearby, Salon zur Wilden Renate offered a maze-like, quirky experience with hidden rooms and surprises around every corner, though it’s slated to close by end of 2025, so it’s a bittersweet spot on our list.
Other seasonal favorites include About Blank, known for its raw techno and strong local crowd, and Else, an open-air club with laid-back house and disco tunes that gives you all the chill vibes from spring through autumn.
We also dip into Ritter Butzke, a favorite for its flexible door policy and diverse musical styles beyond just techno, making it easy to get in and enjoy a range of sounds.
Last but not least, Watergate offers stunning riverside views and a solid electronic lineup, though you’ll want to check for the latest on its operations, as some sources mention challenges in 2025.
Berlin clubbing is about the music, the people, and the shared moments of freedom. Flirting here is casual and light with LGBT+ friendly spirit everywhere you go. The legal drinking age is 18, bathrooms are free across clubs, and packing light is essential—comfy shoes and a small bag will keep you dancing till dawn.
A cheat-sheet always comes in handy:
Berlin’s nightlife runs late, and so does its transport. From Friday to Sunday, the U-Bahn and S-Bahn run 24/7, with Berlin night buses and night trains taking over once the standard timetable ends. It’s the easiest way to get across the city after clubbing, concerts, or late-night dinners.
During the week, things slow down a bit. The S-Bahn offers limited late-night service, but you can still rely on Berlin’s night network of buses and trams—look for routes marked with an “M”. This network guarantees 24-hour public transport coverage in Berlin, even when regular services pause. Check Berlin.de for more info.
